Dementia

There are at least two bands in the country named Dementia. I'll be discussing the one from Bangalore. The other one is from Delhi. While they've listed themselves as Progressive metal, they sound a lot more like groove/thrash/death metal than prog. In fact, if a casual listener were told that it's Lamb of God, he might be inclined to believe it. That's not necessarily a good thing though.

Regular five man lineup. The members are:
Vocal : Pramod Gopal
Drums : Liben Tom
Bass : Suvish Sundaram
Guitar : Prabhat Gopal
Guitar : Robin Thomas

They don't have a satisfactory band photo, so here's one of their logo instead. Pretty cool logo too.

Not sure what it means though.
They only have one song, uploaded on Reverbnation, which makes the writing of this review much easier. However, I remember them once saying that they'll record the other songs soon. But this was like all the way back in July 2011, nothing has been done in that regard so far (that I know of). Right then, so let's move on to their music.

1.) Delusion

ComScore
Starts off with a clean guitar intro, rather contemplative. About twenty seconds in, it bursts into full heavy mode. The riff is heavy as hell, little mid-paced, ensuring good headbanging tempo. Vocals are almost up to the mark growling. Good stuff in that department. What I like best about the song is the drumming. Very Chris Adler-y. The song gets really interesting after the 2:00 mark. That's when it's broken down almost completely, then rebuilt with the use of some hard-hitting riffage and heavy heavy drumming. There's a guitar solo in that section. Song restarts at the 3:00 mark. Continues the heavy energy and riffage till the end. This song has a lot of groove and power packed into it. Great riffing, extra-ordinary drumming. Rounding up the heaviness with almost perfect growling.
I think the major problem with the song, and consequently with the band, is that it sounds way too much like Lamb of God. I don't like that. I'm not a big fan of Lamb of God, and even lesser still of bands that sound like Lamb of God. That's all.
