Crash TV

Crash TV are a band which I'm having a bit of trouble with, regarding what genre to describe them best as. Since they sound a lot like The Beatles most of the times, I'm just going to hope that they allow me to use the term "Britpop", but then their Facebook says the word too, so I don't think they'd disagree either. It's good shit though. Most most definitely worth a listen. Something new.

They have all kinds of this cool artwork.
Crash TV is a five-piece band. And the five pieces are as follows:

Nikhil- Guitars/Programming
Ashu- Vox/Guitars
Imtiyaz- Drums
Chris- Vox/Guitars/Songs
Ashish- Bass

Sorry about the invisible drummer. Made the photo larger to let him be seen.
Them can be found in the left to right order in the following photo, taken from their show in Kyra. This, I suspect, is the same show that brings to us their live recordings.

I saw them live for the Mood-i elimination round at Opus In The Creek, and what struck me most was the immense energy that the band exudes on stage. Also commendable was the way they held their ground even the crowd was predominantly metal (Guilty, sorry), and therefore mostly non-appreciative.

Anyway, there isn't much I can say to describe the band, cause this is not my area of expertise, you know? Britpop? I should get my girlfriend to write this post, she's the Beatles fan really. I just know that I really like it. And want to share. So, I highly recommend that you listen to the music before forming an opinion based on what I say. So we move right in?

1.) Slow Burning
I actually wanted to do the Crash TV post on the 14th, cause I wanted this song to be my V-day recommendation. Not that I like the Valentine or whatever, this song was just stuck in my head that time, and it seemed apt. But once again, my laziness and procrastination has saved my manhood, and I continue to denounce Valentine's Day. Either way, I still want to recommend this song, highly. Great destructive-type love song. With a live version on soundcloud and studio version on Reverbnation. I prefer the studio version, but you're free to choose. Starts with a nice little acoustic guitar opening, joined by a drum frill. Sweet melodic voice. 2 choruses (or chori). Good lyrics. I love the "Slow burn with me/Bay, babe, bay-be" part, that's what was stuck in my head, so you know, approach with caution. The live version is less clear, but has a lot more emotion. So studio version for good sound. Live version for good feel. Okay?

2.) My Friend
The intro somehow reminds me of "Help!" by The Beatles. Have you heard it? I know it starts nothing like that, but the chords kinda sound like they would go with the "When I was younger, so much younger than before" bit. But the verse is very different from that. But good lyrics, and well sung. Nice guitar, cleans. You can really feel emotion in the singing voice. That's great. Good song overall.
3.) Server Is Down
This is a lot more upbeat than the other two. An actual riff this time. That's what mostly acoustic songs can't provide, regardless of sweet they are. Very good basswork here as well. Some strange wacky lyrics. Example: "Let me come over, now let me come on in. Let me come over, I just wanna touch your skin" Um... excuse me? I think the drummer had a little more fun in this song than in the others. And I think the song's also kinda more interesting because of Chris' non-Indian accent.
4.) Holding Hands
This is a live version from their show in Kyra. They managed to pick up quite a few decent sounding live recordings from that night. Which is good. This one is kinda joined to Slow Burning. They played the two back-to-back and just sorta pressed record together, I guess. Anyway, if you've already heard Slow Burning, skip to 5:25, that's when this starts, with a nice recognisable riff. Some jealousy-type lyrics, I'm not a big fan of that kind of stuff. So this is really not my favourite, but it has some good distortion parts, which I haven't otherwise found in Crash TV songs, so it's not a loss or anything. Tune is nice. I like the boiling feel towards the end, that's so cool.

5.) Arsenic
This too is live from Kyra. Quite a bit heavier, also quite a bit weirder. What with the "ooooh" in the back after every line in the verse. I found that really cool. The chorus didn't go so well with me though, but that's alright, no harm done. Some good harmony between Chris and Ashu. The accent difference sounds pretty cool. Kinda morbid song. Apparently it's for anyone who's ever been out with a paranoid person. Get through the occasional weirdness, and you'll realise it's actually quite a dark song.
Who Will Like It? Beatles fans hopefully, just as long as you don't start comparing. And people looking for something new, different and catchy.
Who Will Not Like It? Metal fans. As I've already seen.
Where To Find It? Reverbnation and Soundcloud.
Free Download? Slow Burning + Holding Hands (Live in Kyra) is free to download, others are not.
Lyrics? Yeah, for the reverbnation studio uploads.

So general links then?

Opus in the creek was tough, at times it felt like hitting on a wall, would love to go there again, if there is even one person who appreciates new stuff.. cheers

Yeah, I know what you mean. I gotta admit, I was part of the metal brigade though, and initially I was like what the fuck is this? Then, well, an open mind and Wolf made me check out Crash TV later, in the comfort of my internet. And I must say, it's good stuff.

Dude, this is the band I've liked the most out of every band you've reviewed.
