Rusted Strings from New Delhi is another band which classifies itself as Metal/Progressive/Alternative on ReverbNation. A lot of bands seem to do that in India, never quite got why. But, by no means, must you mistake what I'm trying to say. Rusted Strings is definitely not just another band, as "Days of Reckoning" will prove to you.
Anyway, their Facebook page gives the following lineup:
Anyway, their Facebook page gives the following lineup:
Vocals : Michael
Drums : Prateek
Bass : Mohit
Guitar : Mark
Manager : Maneesha
For those needing a visual on them, here's a photo I got from their Facebook, this time with permission. Whodathunkit right? The above lineup corresponds to this photo from left to right, except that the manager is missing:
I had the opportunity of watching them live when they'd come for SF to NLS. Good fest. Speaking of fests, they've recently (at the time of posting) won the IIFT rockfest in Delhi, so booyah!
Right then, the polite introductions are done, time to get down to business. Rusted Strings have three songs posted on their ReverbNation profile, which are:
1) Humanality:
Opens soft. Vocals soft. Great guitar sound going on. Very clean too. Distortion kicks in about two minutes into it. Resounding vocals. Keeps building, song graph always sloping upwards. Is that what progressive means? Shouldn't it? Anyway, lots of good guitar moments for fans of the clean sound. Sweet solo. Song's kinda long though. Overall on the softer side.
Who will like it? People with the ear for clean guitars. Fans of the softer, more compelling music.
Who won't like it? People who need their songs to be out and out heavy, with the bada bing bada boom.

2.) Are You Ready Now:
Gets right into it. No nonsense, heavy from the beginning. Very mainstream sounding song, that's both good and bad. Lyrics are whacky too: "My point is clear/I need you to respect me/When I'm on stage/Your attitude affects me/My songs are for you/But if you don't care/I warn you dear friend/You better beware." Hehehe, priceless. The guitar solo immediately after this, from 2:50 onwards, reminds me of Godsmack. This song goes very well live. The sort of song you'd remember out of some hundred played over a three day festival (I'm speaking, of course, of Strawberry Fields).
Who will like it? You!
Who won't like it? People who generally shy away from mainstream type music.

3.) Days Of Reckoning:
Right from the beginning you know this is going to be a heavy one, and it is, all through the seven minutes. Amazing riffs thrown everywhere in the song. Vocals are prettydamn haunting. The drumming in this song is just simply amazing, makes me wonder if the drummer in this is a different one than in the other two. The entire section from 3:40 to 4:30 is very well done, gotta watch out for that bit, that's my favourite.
Who will like it? People who like it heavy, no messingaround.
Who won't like it? People who can't stick around for seven and a half seconds.
